Hi all,

Doug Olson had asked about some EbyE sample queries for the GC query
object. Dhammika has put a figure in STAR --> EbyE --> Miscellaneous, a ps
file with some initial cut definitions. These are some simple cuts on
global variables. Feel free to suggest others.

In connection with these spaces we suggest that the DST summary data be
supplemented by T(eta), a vector containing mt slope parameters for several
(3?) eta regions, by <pt2> (mean pt^2) to test for pt-spectrum shape
fluctuations, and rms_eta to monitor the width of the eta distribution. The
last should be pretty insensitive because the STAR eta acceptance is pretty
much restricted to the flat-top, but we suggest it for completeness.

The idea of these cuts would be to compare events from tail regions A and B
with normative events from the central regions. This is an excercise in
formulating cuts with the GC apparatus, and does not imply that this is
good EbyE analysis practice in the long run.

Note that a cut system consists of at least two parts, the cut algorithms,
and the cut data base. The second has to be tuned based on the data and
analysis results. It also has to be carefully controlled and documented.
Where do these objects reside and who has charge of them? More to discuss
tomorrow.

Ciao,

Dhammika and Tom
