Sorry about the estimates.  Im afraid I made some mistakes in the file 
I sent to you.

Q1:  Im not sure why I got a different number than you did.  I think I
might have been looking at the other DB (??) when I made this estimate.
Im not sure.

Q2: When I mentioned in one of my mails that the query 
glb_trk_tot>5000&mean_pt>0.5
could be done with tagrand>1000.
in order to cut in half the number of events returned (not necessarily
clear what it would do to the number of files) I didnt mean Id done it.
So my guess is consistent with your measurement.

Q3: This query is identical to Q4 with a different estimate.  Probably a
typo on my part. 

Q4: See Q3.

Q5: We agree.
