Hi Alex,

I went down the line of rcas machines allocated to the "on" experiment
and found,

rcas0035 had some softlink problems with /usr/include
rcas0036 has some environment problems with the 'star' logins
rcas0135 seems to be good.

So, I built Orbacus (no JTC, no-opt) & installed it in,  /disk0/grandch/porter/linux/OB-3.1.2
bin,lib,include..

it uses egcs-1.1.1 in /usr/local/egcs-1.1.1/bin/c++

I tried to build the GCAClient code with this and it almost worked.
Some modifications I made to the my makefile were,

    ORBDIR = /disk0/grandch/porter/linux/OB-3.1.2/

for the 'std' & 'stl'

     OS_HOME = /usr/local/egcs-1.1.1/include/g++
     OS_STL = /usr/local/egcs-1.1.1/include/g++
     OS_STD = /usr/local/egcs-1.1.1/include/g++/std
     OS_LIB = /usr/local/egcs-1.1.1/include/lib

 CXX = c++
 AR  = c++
 CXXFLAGS = -fPIC --no-implicit-templates -Wall -Wno-return-type
 SOFLAGS = -fPIC -shared

The build failed in compiling gc_util.cpp

/usr/include/limits.h:52: No include path in which to find limits.h
In file included from /direct/disk0/grandch/porter/linux/GCAClient/common/gc_util.cpp:13:

I'll let you know if I find out anything more.
