Brookhaven and other high energy labs where studying the emission
of light fragments in GeV energy reactions.
At Orsay, our group, under RenÈ Bernas set out to develop high
sensitivity mass spectrometry to detect stable reaction products.
Because of the astrophysical importance of Li Be B, we focused on Li
which is easy to ionise by surface ionisation.
To enhance contacts with Americans working in the field, W. Gentner
took the initiative of a series of informal meetings, (a la Gordon
Conference), every other year.
The first was Leysin (1963). We first met Art at Roros (1967) and
RibÈrac (1969) is seen on the next slide.
