Shortly after our Orsay run we heard of Artís long-lived 8He.
It would decay to 8Li, but we found nothing for us there..
If there was a heavy lithium, we could see it directly. Was 11Li bound ?
Claude Detraz had worked with Joe Cerny on the mass of 8He.
When he came back in the summer of 65, we looked at the systematics
of 2n separation energies and found that 11Li might be bound. We could
not say for sure but it was worth trying...
Art settled the matter in November 66 when he identified 11Li 15B
and 15B by particle identification at the Bevatron.
Our technique was still in its infancy but Art immediately recognized its
potential to learn more and we started planning on working together.
