Soft Physics Prospects at the Large Hadron Collider
HIPPOLYTE Boris (Institut Pluridisciplinaire Hubert Curien)
Abstract:
The Large Hadron Collider will start providing collisions
hopefully in the fall of 2009. By design, the experiments at the LHC
show different capabilities in the soft physics sector.
We will start with reviewing the detectors which can be involved for
determining the main properties of the first collisions. Global
observables such as multiplicity, thermodynamical properties or
related to inclusive measurements will be described with a specific
focus on the ALICE experiment.
We will then discuss how multiparton interactions and dynamics
can be studied as well as baryon production in p+p collisions at
the LHC energies.
