A New Model for RHIC PhysicsAbstract: It is well known that high energy interactions as different as electron-positron annihilation, deep inelastic lepton-nucleon scattering, proton-proton interactions, and nucleus-nucleus collisions have many features in common. Based upon this observation, we construct a model for all these interactions, which relies on the fundamental hypothesis that the behaviour of high energy interactions is universal. For example, the parton dynamics in deep inelastic scattering is based on the same equations as the one in proton-proton, the fragmentation in electron-positron is treated the same way as in lead-lead collisions ect. Such a universal approach has the great advantage that theoretical uncertainties on the level of proton-proton or nucleus-nucleus scattering can be fixed by studying more elementary systems as electron-positron annihilation or deep inelastic scattering. In this talk, we present the theoretical basis of our approach to treat in a unified way all the different high energy interactions, providing a solid basis to treat heavy ion collisions at RHIC. |
