Coherent Photonuclear Interactions at RHIC: Theory and Experiment

Abstract:

I will discuss theoretical and experimental aspects of peripheral collisions at RHIC, with an emphasis on coherent photonuclear interactions. After reviewing rate calculations for exclusive vector meson production, I will discuss the physics and rates for stimulated vector meson emission (vector meson lasers). Finally, I will discuss the experimental techniques that we will use to detect these events.
