Anti-hyperon Enhancement through Baryon Junction Loops

Abstract:

The baryon junction exchange mechanism which was previously proposed to describe baryon number transport is extended to study midrapidity baryon pair production. As implemented in the HIJING/B nuclear event generator, the baryon junction exchange mechanism was shown to significantly enhance the valence hyperon yields. Here, we show that midrapidity baryon junction - anti-junction (J - anti-J) loops are essential for enhancing the anti-hyperon yields. In addition, these J - anti-J loops also lead to long range rapidity correlations between the baryon pair. Calculations will be compared with recent WA97 Pb + Pb -> Y + anti-Y + X data and estimates for RHIC energies will be shown.
