In parallel with building up LEP experiments, many physicists felt the
need to continue experiments at the SPS.
I proposed a workshop on the Future of FT Physics 84-89.
Chaired by I. Mannelli, widely attended, it was held in December 82.
A group ìNuclear Beams and Targetsî was convened by W.Willis and the
summary given by Mike Albrow. He refers to ìopen facilityî, quoting RB.
Direct influence on boosting the case for ìexploratory programî.
The SPS community began to take an active interest.
July 84, SPS technical staff points to difficulties with low energies...
September-Nov 84.The SPSC recommends 5 new experiments,
in addition to PS 190 A / B (NA 35 and WA 80). 2 periods of 17
days of O16 end of 86 and beginning of 87.
