Flows and Phase Transition in Nucleus-nucleus collisions at SPS and RHIC energies

Abstract:

The sensitivity of flow in heavy-ion collisions at SPS and RHIC energies to the Equation of State (EOS) is studied employing the relativistic quantum molecular dynamics (RQMD) model. Recently a new RQMD version (3.0) has been developed in which the EOS can be varied rather arbitrarily. This includes EOSs which exhibit a phase transition from hadronic matter to a quark-gluon plasma. It is found that in particular the elliptical flow may be used to distinguish between different EOSs.
