Open Charm Physics at SPS and RHIC

Abstract:

Open charm production is not sensitive to the formation of the quark-gluon plasma; however, the energy loss of charm quarks inside the QGP will have dramatic effects on some observables. We will discuss some open problems in open charm physics at RHIC, including their consequence on the dilepton measurement at PHENIX. The possible enhancement of intermediate-mass dileptons at SPS from open charm decays will also be discussed, but there will be no such enhancement at RHIC.
