Excursions

Excursions are planned for Sunday afternoon, July 23rd. People interested in participating in the excursions must sign up with Galavents, the excusion company who is coordinating the trips. Galavents will be present at the Clark Kerr Campus during registration hours on Wednesday evening (6:00-9:00 p.m.) and one hour before departure on Sunday.

It is important that you indicate your interest in the excursion on the conference registration form.

The following trips are planned:

Tour 1. Muir Woods, Sausalito and Ferry to San Francisco

First stop on this tour of the North Bay in the picturesque Marin County will be Muir Woods National Monument Redwood Forest. Under the giant coastal redwoods, you will take a self-guided tour with trailside signs, markers, exhibits and rangers to assist you. Travel on to Sausalito, a bayside village with winding streets, colorful houseboats, art galleries and fashionable boutiques. Later, we will meet at the dock to board a ferryboat for a ride across the Bay, cruising past Alcatraz for a magnificent view of the San Francisco Shoreline. Our bus will meet the ferry at the dock in San Francisco for the return to Berkeley. Those who wish can stay in San Francisco for the evening and return on their own.

Time: 1:00 - 6:30 p.m.

Cost: Ca. $40.00 per person

Tour 2. An Afternoon in the Napa Valley Wine Country

Blessed with almost perfect climate for growing grapes, Northern California has become the most prestigious wine-producing center in the United States. In Napa, we will view the hand hewn stone and modern wineries that dot the vineyards stretching along both sides of the highway. Growing here are the varietal grapes that produce the fine wines for which the region is famous - Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Fume Blanc, Carbernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Zinfandel to name but a few.

At carefully selected wineries, guides will await to lead you through the processes of fermentation and aging, and then into the bottling rooms. A tasting of the wines produced will follow.

Time: 1:00 - 6:30 p.m. from Clark Kerr Campus (after lunch)

Cost: Ca. $40.00 per person

Payment must be made to Galavents at the conference. For more information please contact Galavents at (925) 253-9556 or Galaeve@pacbell.net.
